If you’re in the Moab area, the boulders at Big Bend are well worth checking out. The small cluster of boulders has some high quality problems on good rock. There is a disproportionately high number of quality harder problems.

Seasons

Climbing is good from October to May. Expect scorching temperatures in the summers.

Accommodations

There’s a string of BLM campsites along River Road, close to the boulders that range in price from $8 to $12. Motels are available in Moab. The Motel 6 is really well priced, allows pets, and has a hot tub.

Food

Moab has a wide selection of restaurants and a grocery store.

Geology

The boulders are chunks of Wingate sandstone that have tumbled down from the cliffs above. Because the Wingate sandstone is aeolianite (composed of wind-deposited sediments), the blocks are unusually smooth and unfeatured. Short folk be warned- the problems tend to be reachy.

Distractions

Moab is an outdoor paradise. There’s world class mountain biking and Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park are nearby. Climbing at the Fisher or Castle towers is exceptional and Indian Creek is only and hour or so away. McDonald’s in Moab has free wireless.
